About Shawntay?
Shawntay is Black and Filipina ARTivist, who connects art to music, culture, while infusing messages that highlight social justice issues that directly impact Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities. Through the avant-garde pop art movement, she is inspired by bright colors and the stark juxtaposition of light and dark and captures these aspects in her work. Aside from her heart, Shawntay is layered; she is a mother, survivor, friend, and warrior for change.
My Approach
Art as a Tool for Social Change and Awareness
I believe in using art to address social issues and raise awareness about injustices. My work is rooted in the idea that art has the power to challenge the status quo, inspire action, and influence positive change within communities. By highlighting underrepresented voices and themes, I aim to inspire others to think critically and engage with the world in a transformative way.
Community Engagement with Purpose and Inclusivity
Within my communities, I emphasize collaboration, mutual support, and inclusivity. My work is driven by a desire to uplift voices, foster meaningful relationships, and create spaces where creativity and individuality can thrive, ensuring everyone feels seen and valued.
